How to do Transitional

All over Britain fashionistas are hanging up their Triangl bikinis and sobbing over their pastel nail varnishes because summer is leaving. Now all we have are hazy memories and our instagram feeds to remind us how it felt to be relaxing by a pool with a cocktail in hand; somehow it just isn't the same at the local leisure centre...

We are now hearing the call of the September issue because Autumn is upon us! Turn that frown upside down because a new season brings whole new shopping possibilities; and we all love an excuse to shop!
Fellow Britons may cower in fear of the transitional trends when the likes of Fearne Cotton seem to layer so easily, so to lighten the load here are my top tips for transitional dressing.

You Gotta Make The Most Of It...

So before the temperature really starts to drop you need to get more wear out of your summer stash! That investment piece? Did you really where it enough to justify the pricetag? If not then this is the time to really focus on making it work for your transitional wardrobe! A statement piece makes transitional layering easy because you can keep everything else so simple.

Don't Under Estimate Your Jeans

When I think of jeans I think of lazy dressing when I just want to chill out with my family; they're low maintenance, warm and go with everything! Sounds like the perfect transitional combination to me!
If you have a fun summery tee, just pop it on with a pair of indigo skinnies. Then layer however you would like; a boyfriend blazer for something more structured, an oversized cardi for when you're feeling extra cosy? Similarly you can still work those pastel jeans with lightweight jumpers or a good bomber jacket.
If you're really looking for an Autumnal update on your fave skinnies then give them a slash across the knees; ripped jeans will be everything this year!

Monochrome Is Your Hero

I am sure we've all got a bit of monochrome lying around; whether it is chessboard checks, houndstooth or a simple Breton stripe tee. They will be your saviour all year round. Finding your perfect transitional style is like Ying and Yang; both seasons will exist in harmony in one outfit and the easiest way to do this is with a little bit of black and a little bit of white.
To really spice it up throw on a summery scarf or pastel handbag for when the sun is still shining that little bit brighter. Later on you can use your leather jacket and woolly hat to completely transform the outfit - gotta love a two for one!

Accessories Count

Accessories can really make or break an outfit and for Autumn there is no exception. If you are struggling with too much bright in an outfit a dark pair of shoes with similar coloured bag should provide more balance to the look. Of course if you looking to go for effortless layering then you would be lost with out a good scarf collection. A chunky woolly knit is good to bring in more of the earthy autumnal palette, whereas a light chiffon scarf is ideal for bringing a summer shade back.

Now Is The Time To Invest

My best piece of advice for autumn is to invest in a good pair of leather boots, a medium thickness coat and a black bag. All of these will work so hard throughout the remainder of autumn and winter that the price tag is fully justifiable! To counteract your heavy investment keep other purchases to a minimum. Scout out the sales for oversized tees and jumpers which always come back around year after year, or just pick out accessories to make your summer wardrobe work even harder. You'll have more leftover for your perfect christmas party pieces...
